Lies and truth

Liars told the British that they would be well off after the divorce.
Liars told the British that the EU locked the UK in a prison of regulations.
Liars told the British that they were in danger of being invaded by strangers.

The UK joined the EU because to develop its economy. And it did.
The UK opposition to EU laws has been limited to 2% since the very beginning.
Foreigners bring their knowledge and workforce to the UK.

Liars tell that a new referendum would betray democracy : how could a ballot be an outrage to democracy ?

The lies are known, nowadays. And it could be interesting to see what citizens have to say when they are confronted to reality.

The truth is that a second referendum would challenge democracy. Because nobody could forecast its result.

Disunited Kingdom

Tories seem to realize at this time that the Brexit may end with their country. Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish are not keen to stay with people dreaming of a past grandeur. Anger between members of the family could raise and that ends up in violence, usually.

Who will be the next PM ? Nothing can be forecasted, since both applicants should realize soon that there is no way out of the deadlock. Thus, they should try to be defeated. Because it’s easier to talk than to act.

I guess that the no-deal is not an option : I can’t see how the MPs could allow that. Will Theresa May withdrawal deal be considered again ? I doubt it since it will not free the UK of the EU. The backstop is only an example of that. The truth is that the UK would become a minor member of the EU, suposed to respect its rules, without having the ability to take part to the definition of those rules.

Thus, Johnson or Hunt should stop the Brexit. The only choice they should have is linked to the way to perform that. If they we courageous, they would revoke article 50. Otherwise, and that’s probably what will happen, they could launch a second referendum. The major problem of that option is that the answer could be the Brexit again. Anyway, nor Johnson nor Hunt want to be the PM having to perform exactly the contrary of what they said they would do. From now on, they should try to avoid to be elected. This should be a lot of fun.

Thanks to the UK, we have an offbeat comedy-drama written every day. And the best is still to come !

A divorce

Some describe the Brexit as a divorce. Is that supposed to say that this is a familiar story we shoukd not be afraid of? Nothing to be surprised of, since it happens all the time… Unfortunately, a divorce is not a happy ending. Who ever believed that any of the two sides was going to be happy after the separation ? But if we only consider the bad aspects of the separation both for the UK and the EU, we remain blind to the fact that the British applied for divorce.

The idea is that they are supposed to be less miserable thanks to the divorce. Isn’t it? It means that the fact of being together caused them distress and widespread hardship . We have to face that despair that our union appears to bring to the British people. They feel that we are guilty of their unhappiness. Or that staying together will bring them misery.

We did not intend to cause that despair. However, we may be guilty of that. However, we did let them have the feeling that we are guilty, even if it’s not true. However, we were unable to show the happy sides of our union.

If we deny that there is a problem and that we are part of that problem, we will not overcome it, and it will appear again and again. With the UK if they remain, since nobody can say how the Brexit will end. Or with other members of the UE.

First, we should know why we are together. This way, we could understand if the UE is not fulfilling our expectations.

Being together, we do not fight against each other. There have been many wars within Europe , therefore we know that this danger cannot be neglected.
Being together, we are stronger and able to defend ourselves against major powers such as the US, Russia or China.
Being together, we made our business relations easier and they could develop themselves.
Being together, we developped a cultural and political frame that we can show to the rest of the words. We promote democracy, freedom and human rights.
Being together, we say that our differences, our distinct languages and all our specifities are not weaknesses but are part or our strength.
Being together, we can share educational standards.
Being together, we share a same space.

Those may be our goals. At the same time, there are oppositions that outline our differences instead of softening them. And we have to accept to comply to the rules that are set by the connunity. The major achievement one cannot deny is that the UE is peaceful.

Anyway, those goals are difficult to reach. And I’m not sure that we can g forward without to admit that we shall loose part of our autonomy. Being together, we cannot prend to be alone and do as we please. If we are a member of a community, we have to accept that there are limits to our egoïsm. Maybe that’s how we should grow older.

Is the Brexit the UE infantile disease ?
